Entry permission depends on nationality, purpose, destination and length of stay. Check directly with the relevant Chinese embassy or consulate before booking medical travel. Ask whether a hospital letter or other documents are required. A regional visa-free policy, including one for Hainan, must not be assumed to apply to Beijing, Shanghai or Chengdu.
Before you travel
Before committing to travel, ask your usual clinician whether the journey is appropriate. Confirm the receiving hospital, named clinical team, written quotation and follow-up arrangements. Allow for recovery, unexpected delays and a companion when needed. Obtain discharge records and a clear plan for care at home.
